The proliferation of computers, peripherals, cell phones and other electronic devices has resulted in an increased emphasis on assembly related cost-savings of these products. Contaminants produced by chips and dust generated by conventional drilling and tapping operations result in time-consuming and expensive cleaning procedures.
In an effort to determine applications where TAPTITE II® and PLASTITE® fasteners could be implemented for increased cost-savings, REMINC purchased and stripped down a Hewlett-Packard PhotoSmart 7350 printer. TAPTITE II® and PLASTITE® fasteners are currently being used in over 25 small diameter applications in the thin sheet metal of the HP 7350 printer chassis and molded plastic components.
TAPTITE II® and PLASTITE® fasteners form their own threads and thereby eliminate any contaminants produced by any drilling and tapping operations. TAPTITE II® and PLASTITE® fasteners also eliminate cross-threading repairs and damaged components. This study can be used to determine similar applications where the TRILOBULAR™ family of fasteners could be further utilized to increase the product’s assembly cost-savings.
