Bakelite handle fixed to cookware via tapped stainless steel punch extruded nut that’s then tack welded to the pan. The fastener currently being used is a ¼ - 20 Phillips pan head machine screw with a SEMS lockwasher and nylon patch. The customer was experiencing frequent loosening of the handle. The application requires repeatable prevailing locking torque which is not achieved using the machine screw and patch.
Replace the currently used machine screw with a ¼-20 POWERLOK®, TORX® head made of stainless steel coated with wax.
Cost savings were achieved by eliminating the SEMS lockwasher and nylon patch. The customer also reduced costly off-line repairs and quality degradation.
